Priority One - WORK THE WALL
We would like to share some stick skill tips and drills during the off-season. Playing with your friends or on a team in the summer is great. However, the best players improve their skills a little at a time between spring seasons. Understanding the highest priority skills, and doing them well, will allow you to compete at the next level of competition.
The most critical thing for players to do this summer is WORK THE WALL! That is how you develop confidence in your non-dominant hand.
Beginner Tips:
When passing the ball:
1. Point your shoulder towards the wall
2. Have your top hand in the middle of the stick and the bottom hand on the butt end of the stick, and "make a muscle", so that the head of the stick is near your head
3. Push the top hand, pull the bottom hand and point to the target. This will "crack your elbow" with the bottom hand touching your elbow.
When catching the ball:
1. Put your top hand near the head of the stick and move the head in front of the ball.
2. Pull your top hand back when the ball makes contact using "soft hands" to stop the momentum of the ball.
